Decorate a Boys Room

A kid’s bedroom should be a place where imagination knows no bounds and where creativity grows.  What better way to go about that than to create a really amazing mural for your son?  It used to be that when you wanted to add a mural to a room you either had to be a first-class painter OR you had to hire someone.  These days though, you don’t need to be or have either.  You can just do it on your own with these stencil kits.  Stencil kits are really nice because they include themes. And along with these themes are everything you need in terms of that theme.  If you want to design that amazing bedroom for your young man and would prefer to work with a professional you should consider hiring a top residential painter in New Jersey. Top NJ house painters have tons of experience when it comes to interior design and house painting.

Jungle Safari For Boys

If you have a kid that really loves animals right now, this one is a super cute idea.  It uses all sorts of animals including lions, giraffes, elephants, monkeys and parrots, but it also has a few other items like trees, different plants, flowers, leaves and more.  It’s really quite colorful too.  All in all, it includes 34 stencils with this kit and you can even buy a personalized name stencil to really make the mural his.

Under The Sea Theme

If you want to do something a little different than a jungle safari theme, this is one to choose.  It’s all about under the ocean animals, and greenery.  It includes a massive amount of stencils – 45, and it has all sorts of stencils like different fishes, dolphins, corals, anchors, a mermaid or two, crustaceans, starfish and even a cute little green turtle with a blue shell.  Lots of really beautiful colors!

Train Set Theme

If there is one thing I know about boys, it is that they like automobiles, including trains.  This one is really cute and has 32 stencils that come with it which include things like stop lights, buildings to make a city in the background, airplanes, a hot air balloon, a few automobiles and a 5-car train.  You can also make this one personalized as well.

Dinosaur Theme Stencils

Another thing that boys love is dinosaur!  This kit has 26 stencils and it includes 15 dinosaurs and then various other stencils like a volcano with lava, flora and fauna, a few signs, the sun, and more.

Prepping The Room and Walls

Before any paint job, you need to prep the room. And this is no different with stencils.  Remove everything from the room, throw rugs, furniture, drapes, etc.  Then, put down a drop cloth so that no paint will get on the carpet/flooring.  Make sure that you tape these down so that they won’t keep moving while you are stepping on them.  You should also give the walls a wash with some warm water, a rag and some dish washing liquid (optional) if need be.  You need the walls to be clean so that the paint will adhere to it.

Using The Stencil Kits

Each kit comes with the entire scene already done – this is a folded image that is included with the kit, unwrap it and put it some place where you can reference back to it.  Of course, if you are creative, you don’t have to do it exactly like the plan does; you can do a few things differently.  But this is meant to be an easy, fun and stress-free project. So if you want to go by exactly how the images are on the plan, you totally can!  Most of the time with these kits, you will be doing the background first, i.e., the sky, the flooring, the ground, etc.  Once this dries, you can begin with the stencils.  Simply place them on the wall and tape them down with painters tape.  Use your designated color of paint for each stencil.  Stencils have different components so you don’t have to paint freehand.  Just paint into the designated spaces for each color.  Once you do this and the paint dries, peel the tape from the stencil and carefully remove the stencil from the wall.

You might be wondering how long it takes to make these murals.  Essentially, that’s going to depend on you, and it’s going to depend on how elaborate the mural is!  Obviously, if you look above at the samples posted, something with 36 pieces is going to take longer than something with only 20 pieces.  Also, if you are doing something intricate like the dinosaurs versus something simple or includes simple objects like trains, the trains are going to take less time!
